So, tonight I ended up in North Kansas City where I stopped in at a very nice little restaurant known as American Fusion Cafe. Sitting in a brick building along Swift Street this is a full-service Cafe along with a food truck. To be honest with you I really went in there looking for a Cuban sandwich, I had seen a picture of one on both Yelp and Google Maps. But when I got there, I was told they serve those only at lunch, somewhat of a disappointment, but not a deal killer.

So, sitting down at the bar I order up a beer and start looking the menu over. It didn't take me long to find something that looked quite interesting. They have a dish they call it Fish Al Ajillo.

This is a Caribbean style dish of tender grilled Corvina fish in a flavorful olive oil, garlic, ajillo pepper and white wine sauce.  Served with rice and vegetables. This was a beautiful piece of white, flaky, delicious, perfectly prepared fish on a plate with that delicious white wine and olive oil sauce, with just the right amount of garlic so as not to overpower the wine and oil. The veggies were left slightly crunchy, just the way I like them.

Although I'm not too much of a fan of rice, it came in pretty handy towards the end of the meal, I smashed it down into that sauce and soaked it all up, it made the rice taste really good!

This turned out to be a very tasty meal!

    Well Done American Fusion Cafe!

    Well Done Indeed!

Great little restaurant, awesome food and drinks, friendly staff, owner comes out and asks you how the food is. Haven't had anything that I didn't like. Recommend the stuffed peppers or the fish tacos, both excellent choices!

When you come here, you'll agree that the space is very inviting with an eclectic mix of decorations tending toward the antique.  The bar is long and open to the dining room as you walk in and notice the counter to order is in towards the back on your left.  It's a casual place where you find your own seat after you order.  Mosey up to the menu board to see what is offered as the daily special in addition to the regular items.

Asking for a suggestion from the Chef, I was directed to the Cuban sandwich.  Not sure of the bread, but it seemed like a variation on French, may well have been Cuban, but not sure.  The ingredients were as you would expect with succulent juicy ham, a well flavored roast pork or maybe a pulled pork - slow cooker style, a slab of intense Swiss cheese with the richness of the flavors set off by a briny pickle and mustard.  Very generous portion that was delectable. The rich flavors or two kinds of pork and thee lush cheese made this sandwich outstanding.  It came with a side of fries that were typical.

Overall, love it and will be back.  Highly recommend you  try it too!

First time there.  The food was interesting, and great.  Service very good.  The Chef very personable and approachable.  And he gave us 10% off because we rode there on bicycles.  Hard to beat.  Will go back again soon.

American Fusion Café is the brick and mortar progression of Chef Tito's American Fusion food trailer that has been popping up all over Kansas City the past couple of years. The AF Café opened about a month ago on Swift in the ever increasingly hip and vibrant NKC.

The space is very open and welcoming with antiques and Mexican art placed about. There is a beautiful long bar and plenty of tables to seat the NKC lunch crowd. The kitchen is wide open and the place is impeccably clean.

My 1st visit today was on Taco Tuesday. Choices included shrimp, fish, Mayan shredded pork, steak or seasoned ground beef. The price ranged from $5 for beef to $9 for shrimp. The plate comes with 3 tacos on double lined tortilla , a cup of savory charros (I drank every drop from my Styrofoam cup) and a scoop of rice. They also have a nice condiment bar to top off your tacos in a traditional way or American style; it features pico de gallo, cilantro, onions, shredded cheese, sour cream, radishes, lettuce, limes and assorted sauces. My shrimp were well coated with slight layer of seasoning and grilled, my wife's fish was fresh, seasoned and seared, and the ground beef order that I did carry out for a friend smelled heavenly.
The menu promises to provide sandwiches, salads and entrees that are given a fresh spin of tradition world cuisines. I'm eager to go back on a non-taco Tuesday and dig deeper.

My only complaint and pet peeve is that I could not get a cup of water with my meal, but was asked to buy a bottle for $1. I would think that a business would not want to risk alienating a person over a free glass of water when said customer just spent $23. Hopefully that situation will be rectified on my return visit. This is not a food truck, there are water faucets.
